Release Notes for Iomega Driver, Version 4.2   March, 1995 The first section of these release notes contains technical information on the Iomega Driver Extension that is not covered in the manual. Section 2 contains information on switch settings for the LaserSafe Plus Magneto Optical Drive. The third section is a brief revision history for the Iomega Driver. If you are using an earlier version of the Driver, use the revision history to evaluate how you will benefit by upgrading your Iomega software. You can obtain the latest version of the Driver from any of the following: Iomega Bulletin Board (USA) (801) 392-9819 (available 24 hours) 8,N,1; 1200-14.4K baud; ANSI Iomega Bulletin Board (Europe) 49 (0) 761-4504444 (available 24 hours) CompuServe® Go MACCVEN Internet info@iomega.com America Online Keyword: Iomega –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Section 1 IOMEGA DRIVER Version 4.2 of the Iomega Driver supports Iomega Zip™, Floptical™, and LaserSafe Plus™ drives. (It does not support Iomega Bernoulli drives.) The Driver is compatible with System 6.0.8 through System 7.5. The Iomega Guest program, which is available on the Zip Install floppy for Macintosh, loads the 4.2 Driver and can be used to support Zip, Floptical, and LaserSafe Plus drives. Current Macintosh Support: Version 4.2 supports Macintosh SE computers or newer, including the PowerMac, Quadra, Performa, Centris, Macintosh LC, Macintosh II, PowerBook, and PowerBook Duo series computers. SCSI Manager 4.3: The Iomega Driver is compatible with SCSI Manager 4.3, but does not take advantage of SCSI Manager 4.3's potential speed enhancements. Virtual Memory and Read/Write Protected Disks When virtual memory is enabled, the driver is unable to prompt for the password to unprotect a read/write protected disk. The Iomega Tools application must be used to unprotect the read/write protected disk in this situation. If a read/write protected disk is inserted without Iomega Tools running, the disk will be immediately ejected. Updating the Driver on Floptical and LaserSafe Disks If you want to update the driver on a disk that was previously initialized or erased using an earlier version of the Iomega Driver or a non-Iomega driver, you need to erase the disk using the Finder. You must update the driver if you plan to use the disk for startup. You can continue to use others disks without updating the driver. Make sure any disks which have not been updated are removed from the drive while the Macintosh is starting. Updating Partitioned Disks in a LaserSafe Plus Drive If you need to update the driver on a disk with multiple partitions (created by the Iomega Driver version 3.5.3 or any other driver), use the following procedure: Step 1. Unmount all but one of the partitions by dragging them to the Trash icon. Step 2. Erase the disk with the option key held down. This will cause a long format of the disk and will also change the disk to only have one partition. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Section 2 LASERSAFE PLUS SWITCH SETTINGS Switch Settings The LaserSafe Plus switches should be set as follows:   SCSI ID Settings     –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Section 3 IOMEGA DRIVER VERSION HISTORY This section summarizes changes to the Iomega Driver for each released version later than 4.0.
